Process
From object to light
Each work is an optical hologram: not a screen, a projection or an optical illusion, but light itself recorded on a single sheet of film. The image is made through repeated experiments that precisely control the laser wavelength, environmental conditions and materials.
01
Object
An everyday object becomes the subject. The work begins with how that object has been seen and believed.
02
Laser
The object is illuminated with laser light. Light from the object meets a reference beam and forms an interference pattern.
03
Recording
The interference pattern is recorded on film, capturing the complete three-dimensional information of the object.
04
Development
Like a photograph, the film is developed and preserved. Nothing else is needed to keep the image.
05
Light
When lit, the film reconstructs the object in true depth, visible from many angles without glasses or devices.

Analog / Digital
Two ways of recording
Analog holograms are recorded directly from real objects, so the object appears to sit inside the film at extremely high resolution.
Digital holograms are created from 3D data without a physical object, allowing images that do not exist in reality.
